NEW: Good News for Windsurfers, Windsurfing Equipment travels as standard baggage on Delta Airlines.

Delta Airlines accepts windsurfing equipment for travel on most flights, except on Delta Connection carriers or MD-88 aircraft. Windsurfing equipment will be accepted on Delta Airlines flights within your regular free checked baggage allowance, and you will only be charged the standard checked baggage fees - no more $150 Special Handling Fee. All regular weight limits still apply (up to 23 kg / 50 lbs), and if you exceed the weight limit the overweight baggage fee will be charged. [AMZ asins='B07WSRXMS8,3903038180,3937323228,B00JE3E028']

Delta Airlines Windsurfing Baggage Fees 2023
Standard baggage allowance and fees based on cabin and travel region apply
Windsurfing boards weighing over 50 lbs. will be charged the applicable excess weight fee
If the outside linear dimensions (length + width + height) exceed 115 linear inches (292 cm), the item will not be accepted
Items in excess of baggage allowance will be subject to additional or overweight baggage fees
Boards are allowed up to two boards per bag

With this type of fee structure, it will often make sense to pack into 2 separate boardbags / quiver bags to split up the weight, keeping the weight of each bag below 23kg/50lbs, and paying 2 bag fees rather than the higher overweight charge if exceeding the 50 lbs weight limit.

Be sure to note that Delta also frowns upon bags weighing more than 32 kg / 70 lbs on most flights, and will not accept a windsurfing bag weighing 70-100 lbs / 32-45 kg, even if you are willing to pay an extra fee - it must be split into multiple bags.

Additional windsurfing equipment restriction and exceptions on Delta Airlines flights:
Windsurfing equipment exceeding 115 linear inches (292 cm) will not be accepted.
Due to size limitations, windsurfing equipment will not be accepted on Delta Connection carriers or MD-88 aircraft.
