Updated 2023 Qantas Carry-on Baggage allowances for adults and children (except infants) are as follows.

Qantas Australian Domestic Hand Luggage Allowance 2023 (except Dash 8 services and flights to/from Olympic Dam)
Qantas has the same hang luggage / carry-on bag policy for all ticket classes on domestic flights. You may bring either 1 larger carry-on item (max linear dimensions 115 cm / 45 in, max 10 kg) or 2 smaller carry-on items (max linear dimensions 2 x 105 cm / 41 in, max 10 kg each, max 14 kg total). If you are travelling on an International itinerary, you must pack according to the International itinerary carry-on rules, even for the domestic portion of your flight.

Qantas 2023 Carry-On Bag Size Restrictions - All Classes:
2 x 105cm (48cm + 34cm + 23cm) bags, max 14 kg total, max 10 kg individual bag (19 x 9 x 13 inches) or
1 x 105cm (48cm + 34cm + 23cm) bag (19 x 9 x 13 inches) 1 x 185cm (60cm + 11cm + 114cm) non rigid garment bag, max 14 kg total, max 10 kg individual bag (24 x 4 x 45 inches) or
1 x 115cm (56cm + 36cm + 23cm) bag, max 10 kg (22 x 9 x 14 inches)

The maximum allowed weight of a single carry-on item on Qantas Airlines is 22 lbs (10 kg) per item, with a total sum of both bags not to exceed 14 kg (30 lbs).

Qantas Domestic Hand Luggage on Dash 8 services
Due to the smaller size of the Dash 8, the carry-on allowance is limited to a single small bag of 105 cm (linear dimensions) with a maximum weight of 7 kg. This carry-on baggage policy applies for all ticket classes.

Qantas Airlines International Flights Carry-On Bag Size and Weight Limits 2023

Economy Class
International Qantas Economy Class passengers may bring 2 smaller carry-on bags, with maximum linear dimensions of 105cm / 41 in (48cm + 34cm + 23cm), or 1 smaller carry-on bag plus 1 non-rigid garment bag (60cm + 11cm + 114cm). Your carry-on baggage is limited to a total of 14 kg (both pieces combined), with no single bag weighing more than 10 kg. If bringing 2 bags, one of these will need to be stowed beneath the seat in front of you.

First/Business/Premium Economy Classes
First Class, Business Class, and Premium Economy Class passengers may bring either 2 smaller carry-on items (limited in size to 105 cm L+W+H), or 1 smaller carry-on bag plus 1 non-rigid garment bag (60cm + 11cm + 114cm). Your carry-on baggage is limited to a total of 14 kg (both pieces combined), with no single bag weighing more than 10 kg. In all cases, no item shall exceed 10 kg in weight, with the total combined weight of both items limited to 14 kg.

Children
Children: Carry-on Baggage allowances are the same for adults.
Infants: There is no Carry-on Baggage allowance for infants. However, food and nappies required for infants during the flight may be carried in addition to the accompanying adult's Carry-on Baggage allowance.

Combined Domestic and International Tickets
If you're flying on both international and domestic flights with Qantas on the same ticket, the international checked baggage allowance will apply to both of your flights. If you have purchased separate tickets for your international and domestic flights, but they are connecting on the same calendar day, you may be allowed the international checked baggage allowance for your domestic flight as well, but you will have to present both tickets when checking-in your bags. Some exceptions may apply.

Qantas Free Checked Baggage Allowance on Domestic Flights
Baggage allowance is included on every domestic flight within Australia on Qantas and QantasLink

If transferring from a Qantas Domestic flight to a Qantas International flight, or vice versa, on the SAME CALENDAR DAY, the International Baggage Allowance is accepted on both flights. Present both tickets when checking baggage in.

Exceptions
Exceptions to baggage allowances exist for certain destinations. Baggage carried above these allowances may not travel on the same flight due to aircraft weight restrictions.

To/From Lord How Island

Note that even if your baggage meets the above requirements, we may refuse to carry it if it is not properly and securely packed. Finally, remember that no single item of checked baggage may exceed 32kg (70lb) and all cabin baggage must fit under the seat in front of you or in an overhead locker, including musical instruments.

Qantas Overweight Baggage Fee 2023 - Extra Bag Fee - Oversize Baggage

If you think your bags will exceed the Qantas checked baggage allowance, you can pre-purchase Additional Baggage Allowance online at qantas.com for lower rates than at the airport. Qantas Frequent Flyers can pay using points.

Excess baggage charges will apply at the airport for any baggage in excess of your allowance. An overweight fee / "Heavy charge" will apply at the airport if your allowance is 23kg per piece and any piece exceeds that weight. No single item of checked baggage may exceed 32kg.

You can pre-purchase additional baggage multiple times up to 100kgs or 5 pieces. It must be purchased prior to beginning your journey.

Pre-Purchased Additional Baggage Charges
It is much cheaper to pre-purchase your additional baggage online before your flight, rather than paying for your excess weight at the airport. You may do so by logging-in to the Qantas website under Manage My Booking, where you will be presented the exact price excess baggage for your itinerary. Here is a guideline of prices you may expect to encounter - however, please note that exact pricing depends on your specific flight route/date/purchase date, and may differ slightly.

New 2023 Australian Domestic Excess Baggage Fee (online) - $50 per piece

International Flights (except to/from North and South America) - You may pre-purchase excess baggage in increments of 5 kg, 10 kg, 15 kg, 25 kg, or 35 kg, up to a maximum of 100 kg in total.

International Flights (between Australia and North/South America) - A maximum of 5 additional pieces of checked baggage may be purchased ahead of time. The checked baggage allowance weight has been increased to 32 kg (from previous 23 kg limit), so a heavy-charge / overweight fee is no longer applicable. If you need to bring additional pieces of luggage, you may purchase additional at an estimated cost of $150 per piece - please note, this may differ on your specific flight route / date / date of purchase, and the exact price will be presented to you when adding it to your booking.

Additional Baggage Charges if Paid at the Airport
Australia Domestic (including QantasLink)
- $100 AUD for each extra piece
- $50 AUD Heavy Charge for each piece weighing over 23kg (up to maximum of 32 kg)

International - between Australia and New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, New Caledonia - $20 per kg
International - between Australia and Asia - $35 per kg
International - between Asia and London - $60 per kg
International - between Australia and South Africa, and Europe - $80 per kg

International - between Australia and North or South America

Heavy charge no-longer applies for flights booked after 26 Mar 2021, as bag weight limit is increased to 32 kg / 70 lbs.
