Each passenger's carry-on items should be within the limit of 5 kg. First-class passengers may carry two pieces of baggage free of charge; business class passengers can only carry one pieces of baggage free of charge.
Each piece of carry-on baggage must have a volume under 20×40×55 cm. Any item in excess of carry-on baggage weight, number or size as listed above will be required to travel as checked baggage.
Each passenger can carry one foldable infant carriage into the cabin. The carry-on infant good and supplies can be brought into the cabin after they are shown and explained to the security officer.
The free baggage allowance on domestic and short-haul international flights (within Eastern Asia) is 20kg/44lbs for economy passengers. This is increased to 30kg for Business passengers, and 40 kg for First Class passengers.
Other international routes allow for up to 30kg/66lbs to be checked by economy passengers, and 40kg for Business Class passengers.
On flights to Europe and America, a piece concept applies. Flights between China and Europe allow for 1 bag of 23kg/50lbs to be checked by Economy passengers. Two bags of 23kg/50lbs each are allowed on flights between China and the US/Canada.
Each piece of checked baggage may not exceed 50 kg in weight and 40x60x100 cm in dimension. For our national routes, every piece of check-in baggage cannot exceed 50 kg and must have a volume under 40x60x100 cm; for international or regional routes, every piece of check-in baggage cannot exceed 32 kg, and the total sum of the three edges of each piece should not exceed 158 cm (62 in). Baggage not within the specified range above cannot be transported unless approved by China Southern Airlines otherwise.
Note: For American routes (except Canada), every piece of baggage over 50kg cannot be accepted, and the total sum of the three edges of each piece should not exceed 158 cm (62 in.).
For the domestic legs of international transportation, restrictions to the baggage's packaging, volume and weight will be subject to applicable international route standard.
The above specifications of baggage (including volume and weight) are maximum limits acceptable to airline companies, but not the free baggage allowance. Passengers may need to pay for portions in excess of the free baggage allowance.
New rules apply to the sales of passenger tickets as of September 1, 2011.
The free baggage allowance (including checked and carry-on baggage) for all passengers of national routes is: 40 kg for first-class passengers, 30 kg for business class passengers and 20 kg for economy class passengers. Passenger with an infant-fare ticket is granted 10 kg of free baggage allowance.
Free baggage allowance (including checked and carry-on baggage) for all passengers of international routes: baggage transportation for international routes of China Southern Airlines adopt the weight free baggage allowance, except for China-America, China-Europe (excluding Russia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia, Turkey, etc.) routes.
For China-America route, with an adult or child ticket, first-class passengers may carry three pieces of baggage free of charge and business class passengers may carry two pieces of baggage free of charge, where the sum of the three edges of every piece of baggage should not exceed 158 cm (62 in.) and the weight should not exceed 32 kg (70 lb.); high-end economy class and economy class passengers may carry two pieces of baggage free of charge, where the sum of the three edges of every piece of baggage should not exceed 158 cm (62 in.) and the weight should not exceed 23 kg (50 lb.). China-America and China-Canada routes adopt free pieces of baggage allowance. Economy class passengers may carry two pieces of baggage free of charge, where every piece of baggage should not exceed 23 kg (50 lb.) and the sum of the three edges of every piece of baggage should not exceed 158 cm (62 in.).
China-Europe routes (except the China Southern Airlines routes for Russia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia, Turkey, etc.) adopt free pieces of baggage allowance. Economy class passengers may carry one piece of baggage free of charge, high-end economy class passengers may carry two pieces of baggage free of charge, and first class and business class passengers may carry three pieces of baggage free of charge, where every piece of baggage should not exceed 23 kg (50 lb.) and the sum of the three edges of every piece of baggage should not exceed 158 cm (62 in.).
If two or more passengers take a flight together to the same destination, their free baggage allowance may be totaled according to the standards of their ticket price levels if they check their baggages at the same time and at the same counter.
Passengers who change their cabin grade involuntarily are subject to the free baggage allowance of their original ticket price.
For the domestic legs of international transportation, the free baggage allowance of each passenger should be calculated according to the applicable free baggage allowance of international routes.

Overweight baggage fees are calculated on a per kilogram basis for all flights where the weight concept applies. The fee is 1.5% of an economy price ticket for your route. To get the exact price for your flight, it is best to contact the airline in advance.
On flights to/from Canada and the US, or to/from Europe, a piece concept applies. In this case, a flat fee is charged for bags weighing between 23-32kg (50-70lbs), and 32-45kg (70-100lbs). The flat fee is usually between $110-$330 per bag.+ Show Full Policy
Overweight Baggage is the exceeding portion to the free baggage allowance of checked and carry-on baggage, and should be charged for overweight accordingly.

The rate of overweight baggage charge is 1.5% of applicable one-way economy class ticket on the day of billing per 1 kg, calculated in the RMB currency and rounded up.

Standard for Overweight Baggage Charge to China-Europe Routes:
Each piece - For the second piece or more pieces, each additional piece of baggage will be charge CNY1300 or local currency of equivalent value.

Precision instruments, electrical and other types of objects, such as large musical instrument, televisions, stereos, washing machines, refrigerators, desktop computers, should be transported as cargo. If precision instruments are transported as luggage, they shall be subject to prior consent of China Southern Airlines. If precision instruments are transported as registered luggage, they should meet the following requirements:
Precision instruments, electrical and other types of items must have ex-factory package or the package recognized by China Southern Airlines;
The weight of precision instruments, electrical appliances and other items shall not be included in the amount of free luggage, the fee on luggage exceeding the specified amount should be charged separately;
The size of the above items should not exceed 40 x 60 x 100cm3;
Passengers should sign on "Liability-exemption luggage Tag". If you carry a small musical instrument such as guitar, violin, under the premise of complying with cabin luggage stipulations, you may bring them into the cabin, if the size is too large and you need to carry, you may consider purchasing extra seat for large instruments. Please make the application for occupying seat for luggage when you make a reservation, the luggage can be carried after the approval of CNS. The total weight of luggage carried on reserved seat shall not exceed 75 kg, and the total size shall not exceed 40 x 60 x 100cm3.

Wheelchairs, Mobility Aids & Assistive Devices
Passengers shall make advance agreement with China Southern Airlines for the carriage of such devices;
Notification to Captain (NOTOC) must be filled to inform the aircraft commander the location of a wheelchair with a built-in battery or the location of a packed battery, and handover with the aircraft commander.
Your electric wheelchair as special baggage will not be transported until communication with and permission by CSN before boarding, but it is necessary for you to follow the safety rules, such as provide the information on electric wheelchair, use up its power or disconnect power device.
