Westjet Checked Baggage Allowance 2017 ↑ Back to Top

Checked Baggage Summary

Westjet has recently introduced new baggage fees, increasing the price of a 2nd checked bag. You will now be charged $25 + tax for the first bag, and $35+tax for a second bag, with additional bags now being charged $100 each. Only on flights outside of Canada/US are you still allowed 1 free checked bag.

The maximum allowable weight for the checked bag is 23kg (50lb), and must not exceed 157cm (62in) in size. These are linear dimensions, meaning the sum of Length + Width + Height of your item must not exceed 157cm.

Please be extra careful when packing your bags for Westjet flights, as new automated self-service bag drops at some airports are very strict in terms of excess weight, and will put up a red flag if you exceed your weight limit by even 1/2 pound.

Westjet Oversize/Overweight Baggage Fees 2017 ↑ Back to Top

Excess/Oversize/Overweight Summary

The excess baggage fee has been increased from $75 to $100 for a 3rd or 4th bag. Some exceptions apply on Westjet flights to Jamaica or Trinidad and Tobago.

Oversize/Overweight fees of $75+tax also apply for any oversized/overweight bag (exceeding 23kg/50lbs, or larger than 157cm). Please note these are cumulative fees, so you may be charged all three fees if applicable (extra bag + oversize + overweight).

WestJet now treats most sporting equipment as regular baggage, and regular excess, oversize, and overweight baggage fees (cumulative) apply for sports equipment, rather than special sports equipment fees as in years past.
