One free piece of hand luggage is allowed, weighing up to a maximum of 8kg, with maximum dimensions of 55x40x20cm.

Be careful when packing so as not to exceed these limits, otherwise you will be forced to check-in your bag and be charged a fee for an additional checked bag.

Checked Baggage Summary

There is a 20kg limit on checked baggage, but you will be charged for every bag to be checked. If you exceed the 20kg/44lbs limit, there will be an extra "overweight" fee added on.

The only exception to the original checked baggage fee is for "Best Fare", where one bag up to 20kg may be checked for free, and "Flex Fare", where up to 5 bags may be checked. The 20kg limit still applies to the combined total weight of all 5 bags.

Excess/Oversize/Overweight Summary

If you'll be flying with overweight bags (exceeding the 20kg/44lbs limit), make sure to purchase your allowance ahead of time on the Germanwings website. It will cost you 30 EUR per additional 5kg allowance. If paying at the airport, be prepared to pay bewteen 50-60 EUR per kilogram.
