Spirit Airlines Carry On 2023 - Cabin Bag Size & Weight Limit

Spirit Airlines Baggage Report Card

Carry-On Allowance2 / 10
Checked Bag Allowance4 / 10
Excess Baggage Fees6 / 10
Overall Grade4.0 / 10

Spirit airlines is very stingy with carry-on bags, and only allow one small personal carry-on bag free of charge. Another personal item or anything larger like a standard carry-on or checked bag will need to be paid for. If planning to bring a larger carry-on, it is much cheaper to plan ahead and purchase the carry-on allowance while buying your ticket.

Size restrictions for the personal item are strictly enforced, and must not exceed 18 x 14 x 8 inches. [AMZ asins='B00LB7REFK,B082K8ZNQ1,B07ZWLQF9T,B00NW62PCA']

You are able to purchase an additional carry-on either online during your flight booking, online before flying, at online check-in, or at the airport. Prices vary depending on origin and location of your flight, but always increase the closer you are to your flight, so it is best to plan ahead. The carry-on piece is limited in size to a maximum of 22 x 18 x 10 inches (56 x 46 x 25 cm) including handles and wheels. Spirit Airlines may require that a carry-on bag travel as a checked bag if it cannot be safely stowed on a particular flight.

Car Seats
Car seats may be carried on board the aircraft if a seat has been purchased for the child; one (1) child per car seat. If the car seat is not able to be safely accommodated on the aircraft (e.g., car seat too large for the aircraft seat) and the customer has purchased an extra seat, a refund will be issued without penalty.

Spirit Airlines Checked Baggage Fees 2023 - Checked Bag Weight & Size Limits

Spirit Airlines charges for all checked bags, including the first checked bag. Prices are dependent on the origin and destination of your flight. As with most low-cost airlines, it is cheapest to purchase ahead of time, preferably while booking purchasing your ticket, as opposed to during online check-in or at the airport counter.

Please note the reduced weight limit allowed by Spirit Airlines (40 lbs/18kg, rather than the typical 50lbs/23kg which is standard among most other airlines) when packing. Otherwise you will be charged an overweight fee for exceeding this limit.

All checked bags on Spirit Airlines are limited to a maximum of 62 linear inches (length + width + height; 158 cm) including handles and wheels and maximum of 40 pounds in weight (18.1 kg). Any bag that exceeds these dimensions or weight limit is considered oversized/overweight and has a corresponding charge. Spirit Airlines does no accept bags that weigh more than 100 pounds (45 kg) or that measure more than 80 linear inches (203 cm) in overall dimensions.
