Sunwing is converting to a low-cost a-la-carte model for baggage fees, and this includes charging a fee for bringing a carry-on suitcase into the cabin. Sunwing has since made changes to its baggage policies with the latest policies applicable for all flights booked on/after December 5th 2023.
Each fare-paying passenger on Sunwing Airlines (both Vacation and Flight-Only passengers) is permitted one small personal item free of charge, which must be no larger than 23 cm x 28 cm x 13 cm. The personal item must be placed under the seat in front of you (not in the overhead compartments). There is no specified weight limit for your small personal item. If you wish to bring a regular standard carry-on sized suitcase/roller bag into the cabin, you may do so by paying a $25 carry-on bag fee (each way, so $50 total for a round trip flight). This will allow you to bring a carry-on sized suitcase and place it into the overhead bins. The maximum size of this carry-on suitcase is limited to 51 x 40 x 23 cm. Officially, a maximum weight limit of 5 kg / 11 lbs applies, although this limit is so low it is not strictly enforced.

As of May 29th 2025, when Sunwing Vacation Packages are operated by Westjet, passengers will be allowed both a small personal item and a standard carry-on sized suitcase/roller bag (9 x 14 x 22 inches) free of charge.
Sunwing Checked Baggage Fees 2025 - Checked Bag Weight & Size Limits
Sunwing has updated its luggage allowance and policies for 2024, but fees for standard checked luggage remain unchanged. The following fees and allowances are for both Sunwing Vacation Packages and Flight-Only purchases in 2024.
If flying on Sunwing with a Vacation Package, you are still entitled to 1 free checked bag of 23 kg / 50 lbs. If purchasing only a Sunwing Flight (not part a Sunwing Vacation Package), you will not have any free checked baggage allowance, and will be charged a fee for all checked bags. Sunwing Flight-Only baggage fees are detailed below.
TIP: If purchasing a Sunwing Flight (flight-only, not vacation package), we recommend booking as early as possible and try to snag one of the limited "Elite Plus" exit-row seats for $50 each way - this is the same price as pre-purchasing your 1st checked bag, but includes not only 1x Checked Bag (reg. $50 fee), but also 1x Carry-On suitcase (reg. $25 fee), priority check-in, priority boarding, extra leg-room, and priority security lane, all for the same $50 price tag as paying to check-in just the one regular suitcase.

NEW FEES FOR CHECKED LUGGAGE - MAY 29 2025
As of May 29th 2025, Sunwing Vacation Packages will be operated by Westjet. New Checked Luggage rules will apply, with no free checked luggage included for Sunwing Vacation Packages. This means that you will have to pay for ALL checked luggage on your Sunwing Vacation Package flight.
New Fees in Effect May 29th 2025
1st Checked Bag - $35 + tax (online), or $55 + tax (at the airport)
2nd Checked Bag - $55 + tax (online), or $75 + tax (at the airport)
The only exception to this is when booking your vacation package about 3 months in advance (the official text reads "by the first of the month, for travel at least two months following the booking deadline"), in which case there is an "Early Booking Incentive" of the first checked bag being accepted free of charge.
Sunwing Overweight Baggage Fee 2025 - Extra Bag Fee - Oversize Baggage
Sunwing has updated its baggage fees for 2024, with the new prices in effect for all bookings made as of December 5th 2023. Most of the changes and updates affect the fees for transportation of sports equipment on Sunwing Airlines. The new policies presented here are in effect as of the start of 2024.
Sunwing Excess Baggage Fees 2024
2nd Checked Bag - $90 at airport ($70 if pre-purchased at least 48 hrs before) - 23kg/50lbs
3rd Checked Bag - $120 - 23kg/50lbs
Overweight/Oversized Fee - $115 - 23-32kg (50-70lbs)
Dimensions of checked baggage, (Length+Width+Height), must not exceed 62 inches (158 cm). Any oversized pieces may be rejected at check-in and those who wish to transport such pieces can contact a cargo service provider.
Customers may pre-purchase baggage allowance by calling the Sales Centre at 1-877-SUNWING or by accessing "My Booking" on the Sunwing website up to 48 hours prior to departure.
As of October 24th 2022, Sunwing no longer offers a complimentary additional sports equipment allowance - instead, you will be charged a sports equipment fee each way - this fee has been increased as of December 5th 2023.

Medical Equipment
Arrangements to bring medical equipment on board require advance notice - please ensure you contact us at the time of booking or at least 72 hours in advance of departure.
Pets on Board
Note: Sunwing does not accept any pets/animals for carriage other than service animals.
