Finnair Kiteboard Fees

Finnair's surfboard policy accepts a surfboard as one piece of special baggage, meaning that your kitesurfing gear may be accepted as a regular piece of checked luggage as long as it's dimensions are less than 190cm x 75cm x 65cm (75in x 29.5in x 25.5in), and weighs less than 23 kg / 50 lbs.

The maximum weight of your kite bag is 23 kg / 50 lbs. If your boardbag weighs more than 23 kg / 50 lbs (up to a maximum of 32 kg / 70 lbs), you will be charged Finnair's Heavy Bag fee, which depends on the origin/destination of your flight.

When flying with kitesurfing gear, it is best to inform Finnair ahead of time, as space may be limited in the cargo hold. If your kite bag is in addition to your regular free checked baggage, keep in mind that you will still need to pay the standard Excess Baggage Fee, as if it were an additional suitcase. It is cheaper to do so at least 1 week before departure, rather than at the airport.
