Alaska Airlines accepts SCUBA equipment as a piece of regular luggage. Standard checked bag fees apply, but the oversize and overweight fee is waived. That means it will cost $35 if it is your only bag, or $45 if in addition to a suitcase. Additional items will be charged the regular excess baggage fee of $150 each (3rd item +).
These increased 1st and 2nd checked luggage fees ($35/$45 vs $30/$40) apply to all flights booked on/after January 2nd 2024. [AMZ asins='B00NIYJF6U,B001PB6R4Q,B009F1924K,B00ZHPLCS2']
The higher $150 3rd / Extra Bag fee applies on all Alaska Airlines flights purchased on/after June 30 2023. The previous extra bag fee of $100 still applies to flights purchased before June 30 2023.
One piece of scuba equipment is defined as one scuba gear container and one tank. The scuba gear container is limited to one regulator, one tank harness, one pressure gauge, one mask, two fins, one snorkel, one knife, one spear gun and one safety vest. Scuba equipment may exceed 62" (linear) but no more than 115" (linear), without incurring an oversize fee.
Note: Scuba tanks must have the regulator valve disconnected. The tank must have an open end for visual inspection.
You may check SCUBA equipment as multiple pieces, and it will be accepted as one checked piece. Refer to our Alaska Airlines Checked Baggage policy for checked piece, overweight, and oversize charges.
