Alaska Airlines Surfboard Fees

Alaska Airlines is one of the most surfboard friendly airlines in the US. It accepts surfboards as a piece of checked luggage, with a maximum of 2 boards inside. Regular baggage fees apply, but there are no additional oversize or overweight fees that will be charged. Please note that size limits differ depending on which size airplane you are flying on, with different limits applied based on the flight number.

If you are flying with just a boardbag, you will be charged the $35 1st checked item fee. If it is in addition to a suitcase, the $45 2nd Bag fee applies. If it is your 3rd or more piece of checked luggage, it will cost $150. [AMZ asins='B00HTA1Z6C,B00GGPK0V2,B00NIYJF6U,B0053TGSK4']

The increased 1st and 2nd checked luggage fees ($35/$45 vs $30/$40) apply to all flights booked on/after January 2nd 2024. The higher $150 3rd / Extra Bag fee applies on all Alaska Airlines flights purchased on/after June 30 2023.

Surfboard Rules on Alaska Airlines
One item of surfing or paddle equipment is defined as a surfboard or paddleboard case with up to two boards inside. On Alaska Airlines flights operated with 737 or Airbus aircraft the equipment may measure a maximum 115" (9 ft., 7 in.) in length alone. On Alaska Airlines flights 2000-2999 and 3330-3499 the maximum combined dimensions may not exceed 115" (linear).
