Unfortunately Jetstar no longer accepts windsurfing equipment, claiming that it is too large to fit in the hold of the aircraft. The maximum lengths of oversize items permitted on Jetstar flights depend on the aircraft type, and are as follows:

Jetstar Airways (JQ), Jetstar Asia (3K) and Jetstar Japan (GK)
A320, A321, Boeing 787 – domestic - 2.3 meters [AMZ asins='B07WSRXMS8,3903038180,3937323228,B00JE3E028']

Jetstar Airways (JQ)
Boeing 787 – international - 2.77m

Most windsurfing equipment will exceed the 2.3 meter limit, but will fit within the 2.77 meter limit on international flight. To get it accepted, you will have to claim that it is a surfboard, as otherwise will be rejected at check-in.

Jetstar allows you to bring your windsurf gear with you as checked baggage, but you will be charged a $25 AUD / NZD "Bulky Item" fee. The easiest way to pay your windsurf gear's "bulky item" fee is by adding it to your booking ahead of time via the "Manage my Booking" option on the Jetstar website.

Your board bag is limited in length based on the aircraft type you are flying. The maximum allowed length of your board bag is as follows:

Jetstar Airways International Flights on Boeing 787: Maximum Length - 277cm
All Other Flights, including Domestic Flights: Maximum Length - 230 cm

Please note, if your journey contains multiple flights with two or more aircraft types, the lesser of the limits applies.

Keep in mind that your windsurfing bag still counts toward your total baggage weight allowance, so be sure to check that your ticket includes enough weight allowance, or to purchase enough weight allowance, so that your board bag plus any suitcases you are bringing together all fit within your total checked baggage weight allowance - otherwise a steep per KG fee will be charged for the excess weight.

When packing your windsurfing gear, keep in mind that no single checked item may weigh more than 32 kg, even if you have purchased a higher total weight allowance. You may need to pack your rig into a extra quiver bag separate from your board, splitting the weight across 2 bags so that no individual bag exceeds the 32 kg weight limit. In this case, you will have to pay 2x the Bulky Item fee.

If you're travelling with windsurf gear, make sure you arrive at the airport when check in opens for your flight. All bulky items must be packed appropriately in accordance with the guidelines, before being presented at check-in.
