Surfboards may be accepted on SWISS Airlines within your regular free baggage allowance, in place of one suitcase, as long as they are less than 2 meters in length. If longer than 2 meters (up to 315 cm), they will be classified as "Large" sports equipment and charged a fee.

The maximum length allowed for a surfboard, even when paying a fee, is up to 315 cm.

The fee for Large sports equipment on SWISS Airlines, meaning up to 315 cm long and weighing up to 32 kg / 70 lbs, is quite expensive:

SWISS Airlines Normal Sports Equipment Fee
The Normal sports equipment fee on SWISS Airlines is less expensive, allowing for surfboards up to a maximum of 2.00 meters long. The board bag may weigh up to a maximum of 32 kg / 70 lbs.

Within Europe: $90 USD / 80 EUR

Register Your Surfboard with SWISS Airlines
Be sure to register your surfboard as early as possible, as space is limited on the airplane, and if it fills up your surfboard will not be accepted. To register your sports equipment, you can call the SWISS Airlines service center with your booking reservation information: +1 833 626 0737
You MUST register your surfboard before your flight - you can do so until up to 24 hours before departure. It is not possible to register your sports equipment with less than 24 hours to go before departure.
