Virgin Atlantic's founder Richard Branson is well-known as a high-profile kitesurfer, so it's no surprise that Virgin Atlantic accepts your kitesurfing equipment free of charge as part of your regular free checked baggage allowance.
You can bring your kite gear as part of your free checked baggage allowance, at no extra charge – as long as it doesn’t weigh more than 23kg / 50 lbs. Otherwise, a 65 GBP / $100 USD overweight baggage fee will apply. [AMZ asins='B01BN1W5G6,B01465RK8E,B00NIYJF6U,B003EBV7XG']
If your kitesurf gear is in addition to your free checked baggage allowance, you will still have to pay the standard extra bag fee. Keep in mind that Economy Light does not include any free checked bags.
Here’s what you can bring:
Kitesurfing:
One board
One Kite
These must be wrapped as a single item in a bag.
Your kiteboard bag is limited in size to 190 cm in length, with maximum dimensions of 190 x 75 x 65 cm (75 x 30 x 26 inches).
