Virgin Atlantic Kayak Fees and Policies

Virgin Atlantic previously accepted kayaks free of charge - unfortunately Virgin Atlantic no longer accepts kayaks in 2023.

Virgin Atlantic no longer mentions kayaks on their website, meaning they are unlikely to accept them as they exceed the maximum oversized baggage size of 190 x 75 x 65 cm (75 x 30 x 26 inches). However, Virgin Atlantic is quite lenient in its acceptance of other sporting equipment, it is possible that they will simply accept it as part of your standard checked baggage allowance, or upon payment of an extra bag fee if in excess your standard free checked luggage allowance.

Below is Virgin Atlantic's previous policy regarding acceptance of Kayaks, before they were removed from their website:

If white water wets your whistle, you'll be glad to know you're welcome to bring a canoe or kayak on your flight. That's in addition to your free baggage allowance, and there's no extra charge.

Your canoe or kayak must not exceed 4.5m (162") in length, or 23Kg in weight. If it exceeds these limits, please contact our Shipping Department on 0844 873 8000.

We know how valuable equipment like this is and treat your property with care, but you should still take a few measures to protect your canoe or kayak for its flight. When packing, please ensure that:

It's securely wrapped (ideally within a padded bag);
Items like paddles, seats, buoyancy aids, spray decks and helmets are packed inside the canoe/kayak (provided the overall weight limit is not exceeded).
