Virgin Australia Fishing Rod Fees

Virgin Australia will accept your fishing equipment within your free checked baggage allowance, as long as it is within the accepted weight limit of 23 kg.

Your fishing rod must be packed in an appropriate fishing tube or PVC container with screw-ends to protect the rod. Your fishing case must NOT be strapped to any other suitcase or baggage. [AMZ asins='B000E3E22A,B008BR23FY,B00YEH5PQO,B00SXZMQTM']

Your fishing rod represents one piece of checked baggage, and may be exchanged for a standard suitcase in your checked baggage allowance.

You may need to purchase additional bags if flying with your fishing rod in addition to your standard baggage. Keep in mind, if flying with your fishing rod on a Lite fare, please note that your fare does not include any free checked bags - you will have to add and pay for all bags online before your flight. You may pre-purchase up to a maximum of 2 additional checked bags - if you need more bags, you will have to pay for them at the airport, at the higher "At the Airport" rate:

If your fishing gear exceeds the 23 kg weight limit (up to a maximum weight of 32 kg), you will be charged an overweight fee, as follows:

Virgin Australia Domestic Overweight Baggage Fee: $50
Virgin Australia Short-Haul International Overweight Baggage Fee: $100 AUD / NZD
