You can bring your bicycle on Virgin Atlantic flights as part of your regular checked baggage - there is no special Bicycle Fee or Oversize Fee. An overweight fee of 65 GBP / $100 USD will be charged if your bike weighs more than 23 kg / 50 lbs (up to a maximum of 32 kg / 70 lbs).
Your bicycle will be treated as a standard checked bag, meaning you can bring it in place of a suitcase as part of your free checked baggage allowance, or you will have to pay the standard Extra Bag fee if it is in addition to your regular luggage. Keep in mind that Economy Light tickets do not include any free checked bags. [AMZ asins='B00JEILGMK,B00FRG7Q7W,B018FF6EV0,B00FNSS6QY']
This applies to non-motorised bicycles (including tandems), which should be transported in a protective box or bag – which you will need to provide yourself.
You should also take the following measures to protect your bicycle:
Partially deflate the tires to reduce the risk of damage.
Turn the handlebars so they’re in line with the frame.
Remove any attachments, including pedals.
Ensure the gearing is especially well protected.
Protect the frame with bubble wrap.
Be sure to pack your bike into an appropriate bike box / case to ensure it arrives unscathed.
