ITA Airways Bike Fees and Policies

ITA Airways will accept your bike for transport as a "Large Sports Equipment" item - your bike cannot fly as part of your regular checked baggage allowance.

NOTE - TO/FROM USA:An exception is on flights to/from the USA, your bike can be taken as part of your regular free checked baggage allowance, in place of a regular suitcase, as long as it fits within the 23 kg / 50 lbs weight limit. ITA Airways will accept both single-seat and tandem bikes. It defines a bicycle as "a normal bicycle (with no motor, not an e-bike), single seater or tandem, suitably secured with rigid packaging, with the handlebars fixed laterally, the pedals removed and the tyres completely deflated."

The maximum weight is 23 kg / 50 lbs, above which ITA Airway's standard Overweight baggage fee will apply.

When adding your Bike or Tandem to your ITA Airways booking, you should select the "Large Sports Equipment" option. Remember to add it online ahead of time, rather than pay the higher fee when paying for your bike at the airport.
