Finnair charges a flat fee per windsurfing board bag, depending on the origin/destination of your flight. Although Finnair accepts a surfboard in place of a regular suitcase as part of your checked baggage allowance, dimensions are limited to only 190cm x 75cm x 65cm (75in x 29.5in x 25.5in). Windsurfing gear is always larger than that, so unfortunately it does not qualify, and the windsurfing fee will be charged. If you're a wingfoiler, you may be in luck when flying Finnair, as shorter wing boards may fit within these dimensions.

When flying with windsurfing gear, Finnair will accept it, but we recommend looking for a different airline, as Finnair's windsurfing fees are quite steep. This is especially important as your board bag is limited to only 23 kg / 50 lbs, so you will likely need to bring 2x boardbags. [AMZ asins='B07WSRXMS8,3903038180,3937323228,B00JE3E028']

The maximum weight of a boardbag is 23 kg / 50 lbs. If your boardbag weighs more than 23 kg / 50 lbs (up to a maximum of 32 kg / 70 lbs), you will be charged Finnair's Heavy Bag fee, which depends on the origin/destination of your flight.

When flying with windsurfing gear on Finnair, it is best to inform the airline ahead of time, as space may be limited in the cargo hold. [AMZ asins='B07WSRXMS8,3903038180,3937323228,B00JE3E028']
