Flying with Musical Instruments on Air India

Please note that Air India does not allow any instruments to be brought on-board as carry-on baggage/cabin baggage.  From the Air India Website:

Musical instruments will be permitted as part of checked-in baggage only. Such musical instruments may be pooled in the Free Baggage Allowance but if in excess of the Free Baggage allowance, it will be charged as per the applicable excess baggage charges.
