Delta Airlines Baggage Report Card

Carry-On Allowance9 / 10
Checked Bag Allowance6 / 10
Excess Baggage Fees4 / 10
Overall Grade6.3 / 10

You're allowed one carry-on bag and one personal item at no extra charge. Just make sure they fit into the overhead bin or under the seat in front of you.

Delta Airlines Carry-on Size Restrictions
Baggage may not exceed 45 linear inches (or 114 cm) in combined length, width and height, including any handles and wheels
Baggage must fit easily in the Carry-on Baggage Check (approximately 22" x 14" x 9" or 56 x 35 x 23 cm), which is located near the check-in counters
Passengers traveling on Delta Connection flights, and only those flights with fifty (50) seats or less, are only permitted to carry personal items on board the aircraft due to limited overhead space. Personal items must be able to fit securely under the seat in front of the passenger. All carry-on bags within Delta's size restrictions will be gate checked, free of charge, during the boarding process and returned upon deplaning. Please ensure that a pink Gate Claim/Planeside tag is securely attached to the carry-on item. Assistive devices are not subject to this restriction. Delta Airlines Carry-on Weight Restrictions
You should be able to place your carry-on bag into the overhead bin without assistance. No maximum weight applies to carry-on baggage except at the following airports:
Singapore, Singapore - Changi International Airport (SIN) carry on should not exceed 15 lbs. (7kgs)
South Korea - Incheon International Airport (ICN) carry on should not exceed 22 lbs. (10kgs)
Beijing, China - Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) carry on should not exceed 22 lbs. (10kgs)

1 purse, briefcase, camera bag or diaper bag
or 1 laptop computer (computers cannot be checked)
or 1 item of a similar or smaller size to those listed above

Additional Approved Items
The following items do not count as personal items (they're freebies):

A jacket or umbrella
Food or drink purchased after clearing the security checkpoint
Duty-free merchandise
Special items like strollers, child restraint seats or assistive devices such as wheelchairs or crutches

Other Carry-On Baby Items
In addition to the one bag carry-on allowance, passengers may bring the following infant items onto the plane as an additional free item:

Booster seat or other infant seat
Bassinet

Please be aware that if you are bringing your baby's bassinet or infant seat as carry-on baggage, it must be secured tightly by a seatbelt to be stored on an aircraft seat. The item must also meet carry-on size restrictions.

If children are traveling for free, they don't have a baggage allowance. So any baggage for the child counts as part of the adult's baggage allowance.

Cabin-seat Baggage
Traveling with something too large and/or too fragile to check or put in the overhead bin? You have the option of purchasing a ticket at the best available fare for your fragile item. You can then store your item in any passenger seat with a physical bulkhead or divider in front of the compartment. Contact Reservations for fee information.

To fit into a seat, your fragile/bulky item(s) must:

Not exceed 100 lbs. (45 kgs).
Not restrict access to, or use of, any required emergency or regular exits or aisle of the cabin.
Not obscure any passenger's view of the seatbelt, no smoking, or exit signs.
Not contain dangerous goods.
Be securable with a seatbelt to avoid shifting during the flight.
Be packaged or covered safely to avoid potential injury to passengers.
Be secured in a seat in the same cabin as the owner, and preferably next to the owner.

Musical Instruments :
Guitars and other smaller musical instruments, such as violins, will be accepted as your free carry-on baggage item on Delta and Delta Connection® carriers flights¹. These items must easily fit in the overhead bin or other approved storage location in the cabin, based on available space at the time of boarding. Musical instruments may be gate claimed at the discretion of the passenger and as a result of limited overhead space.

Please see the Delta Airlines Musical Instruments information page for more detailed information.

What Instruments Might Need Their Own Seat?
You may purchase a full fare ticket for an item that you feel is too fragile to be handled as checked baggage. You may stow the baggage in any passenger seat with a bulkhead or divider in front of the compartment. The following restrictions apply. The item must:

Not exceed 100 lbs. (45 kg)
Be packaged or covered in a way to avoid injury to other passengers
Be properly secured by a seatbelt to avoid shifting during flight
Not restrict access to, or use of, any required emergency or regular exits or aisle of the cabin
Not obscure any passenger's view of seatbelt, no smoking or exit signs
Not contain dangerous goods
Be secured in a seat in the same cabin as the owner and preferably next to the owner

Please see the Delta Airlines Musical Instruments information page for more detailed information.

Musical Instruments
Musical instruments and/or equipment are accepted as checked baggage, carry-on baggage or cabin-seat baggage - depending on its size and shape - on Delta and Delta Connection carriers flights¹. Please help us to keep your instrument safe by bringing it in a hard-shell case.

What Instruments Can I Check?
Musical instruments or equipment can be checked if the total linear dimension (length +width +height) does not exceed 115 inches (292 cm), and provided the weight, including the case, does not exceed 100 lbs. (45 kg).

See standard rules and fees for overweight and oversized baggage.

Sports Equipment
You can bring most sports equipment with you on your trip, though extra baggage fees may apply to oversized or overweight items. If you don't see your item below, then normal baggage allowances, fees and handling policies apply. Otherwise, you are likely to be able to bring your sports equipment in place of a regular piece of baggage, and be charged just the standard checked baggage fee - as long as the sports item weighs less than 50 lbs / 23 kg - the oversize baggage fee will be waived.
